Samsung's top tier of Omnia devices is populated by some seriously heavy-hitters - first the 720p video recording Omnia HD and now the Omnia II - with its best-in-the-business display, WM 6.5, zippy processor and preloaded software galore, it will certainly win the hearts and minds of Windows Mobile fans.

It's no secret that the Samsung Omnia II has the HTC Touch Diamond2 in its sights. The Omnia II has several advantages, not the least of which is the amazing 3.7" AMOLED WVGA display. For the acronym-allergic - WVGA means 480 x 800 pixels resolution, which several years ago might have been considered acceptable for a computer monitor. That resolution is not so uncommon today, the exciting part here is "AMOLED" - active matrix organic LED. Or in plain English - brilliant picture quality.

It doesn't end there - the 800MHz CPU is one of the speediest around and the available capacities of up to 16GB built-in memory and up to 32GB external storage via microSD card offer more than enough memory expansion. There's Wi-Fi and GPS, the autofocus camera shoots 5MP stills and D1 video at 30fps and has dual-LED flash, there's DivX playback out of the box and HSDPA and HSUPA push the phone to great wireless speeds.

Samsung I8000 Omnia II in our office

The Omnia II sample used for this review runs Windows Mobile 6.5, while the units that are currently available on the market run Windows Mobile 6.1. Those however will be eligible for a free upgrade to ver. 6.5 as soon as Micorsoft release the final build of the new OS (rumored late September or early October). All Omnia II units that will ship after that will run the Windows Mobile 6.5 out of the box.

UPDATE 29 Aug: There seems to be a lot of commotion in various forums, our comments section included, about the actual CPU speed of the Omnia II - 667MHz or 800MHz. Samsung official specs seem to deliver some contradictory information and you should rest assured we will be contacting Samsung directly to clear up the issue.

All that being said, it’s just numbers we’re talking here. If you think that calling it 667MHz makes Omnia II a worse performer, you’re wrong. The clock rate of a processor is only useful for providing comparisons between computer chips in the same processor family and generation and is hardly useful for direct comparison between competing mobile platforms. But we digress.

Our point here is that no matter what the actual MHz number is, at no point did we judge the Samsung Omnia II by its pure clock rate. Instead we quite more value the real-life impressions of our experienced reviewers and we’ve hardly drawn any conclusions based on the pure processor spec sheet. And neither should you – no matter if it is 667MHz or 800MHz we’re talking about in this particular case, the Omnia II remains a leading performer among smartphones this year.

The Samsung W880 ups the ante with a world's first 12 megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom. Featuring a hardware Mode dial and a real zoom lever it does feel like a real camera and you may find yourself struggling to find the mobile phone under the digicam skin. Now while W880 is South Korea bound only, it's enough to give us a taste of what's coming in the shape of the rumored Samsung M8920, which should make it our way sometime next year - but with Wi-Fi and GPS on board.

Designing a mobile phone (or any other portable gadget for that matter) is a balancing act - the engineers must juggle between cost, size and features, all the while being limited by the current state of technology.

Say cost doesn't matter - that still leaves only so much that can reasonably be crammed into a mobile device. Progress is made, technology advances, which results in things getting cheaper, smaller and with more features. And quite soon, things that seemed impractical a few years back can now be released as a consumer device.

This is how the Samsung W880 AMOLED 12M came to be - it contains all the mechanical elements of a point-and-shoot camera, but still has enough room left for the phone parts. It's not the first phone to achieve that but it's the first 12-megapixel one and the added 3x optical zoom and xenon flash pretty much put it on par with a typical point-and-shoot camera.

The Samsung W880 has some high-end imaging functions too - tracking touch autofocus, 720p@30 fps video recording, 3.3" big AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with WVGA resolution. That's not something you see every day on a cameras and it's top notch in mobile phone terms. Even the degree of control over how a photo is taken beats out consumer cameras, let alone cameraphones.

Now, keep in mind that the we're previewing a prototype here and it's a prototype of a phone meant for the South Korean market only and although it has tri-band GSM and support for UMTS, those are meant for roaming only - the AMOLED 12M is for South Korea and South Korea only.

So, why bother with a preview then? Well, there's a global version coming in the beginning of next year and that might actually land in a store near you. It will look just the same but will drop the T-DMB TV receiver, which has little use outside of South Korea anyway, swapping it for the more practical Wi-Fi and GPS. Supposedly, the global GSM version will be allegedly called Samsung M8920, but that has yet to be confirmed by an official source.

On this Blog, I will teach you how to upgrade your HTC BlueaAngel from its original ROM (Windows Mobile 2003SE) to a latest ROM (as of now Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro). And if you do this successfully it will be easy for you to upgrade your HTC BlueAngel if there is a newer ROM than WM6.1Pro. ROMs can be found all over the internet that is if you search carefully. But non of those ROMs are official for HTC BlueAngel. Those ROMs are cooked ROMs that means the original ROM (package) was upgraded or added some extra features/softwares/applications that can also be found on a original WM6.1Pro. I will see to it that all explanations here will be as easy as 1-2-3.

In WM2003SE you have 4 "types" of memory:

ExtROM - Where data such as hotfix or addons are stored. Persistent memory - no data is lost when battery is drained.

ROM - Where OS is stored. Persistent memory - no data is lost when battery is drained.

RAM - You can adjust the ratio between Storage (where programs are stored) and Program memory (where programs "run"), but it's non-persistent memory - all data is lost when battery is drained. (Installed programs, sms, documents everything!)

Storage - You can store here anything you want and this is persistent memory - no data is lost when battery is drained.

In WM5 and WM6 you are not using your RAM as storage for programs or documents anymore. Instead of RAM you are using Storage - because as we said before, no data is lost when your battery runs out.

Because of this, it's a good idea to merge your ExtROM with Storage to one "BIG Storage". (You will not install anything from ExtROM. You're not using non-persistent memory for storing programs anymore. Instead of ExtROM you can use SD or MMC card (Memory card), or install the hotfixes once after the flashing)

Hint: If something isn't working as it was expected - read it again, step by step, one by one - it must work.

NOTE : You can resize your storage only in WM2003SE!

- Download unlocker.cab DOWNLOAD HERE

- Download Repart_Doc.exe DOWNLOAD HERE

- Place both of them somewhere on your Pocket PC. For example in \temp but anywhere is fine. All the command below are to be executed on your Pocket PC, not on your PC.

- Install xda-developers_Unlocker.CAB by tapping on it in filemanger (from the directory where you put it earlier)

- Then go to start -> Programs -> ExtROM tools -> then first run "unhide", then "Unlock".

- Do a soft reset.

- Once your Pocket PC is restarted, locate the Repart_DOC.exe file with your filemanager and start it.

- Set the size of Extended ROM to 128 kb (which is already the default).

- Press "Format now!" and wait until it is done (A few seconds). You will see a message that it is done. (You will get an error message about your storage, just press yes and wait a few seconds.)

- Soft reset your Pocket PC.

2. Put that folder on your computer. (anywhere will do)

3. Temporarily remove your SD Card (it may work for you with the SD card still in your BA, but you may not be able to enter USB mode when cradled).

4. Put your device into Bootloader mode by pressing and holding the "Power" & "Record" buttons, and then press the Reset Button.

You will know if you have performed a hard reset if you are lead through the setup of your device section. All else is just a softreset.

How to Enter into BootLoader

Press and hold the "Power" & "Record" buttons, and then press the Reset Button until “Serial” shows on screen.
(Some BlueAngel shows "Serial" at the top and "V2.07" at the bottom.)

NOTE: The screen will not be backlit, so it may appear the phone is not in bootloader mode.

Look carefully.

When the USB sync cable is inserted into the phone and the computer, "Serial" will change to "USB", provided that the phone detects the connection.

5. Connect the phone to the sync cable/cradle.

7. Now you can execute the installer file. (BaUpgradeUt.exe) You will see this window:

8. When the upgrade is completed, you must perform a Hard Reset. (I have already showed you how to do thus)

When the bootscreen, aka. the colored stripes is displayed, wait more, you are booting. The welcome screen to set up your device will appear shortly ...

(if removed earlier) Put back your SD Card before you do the setup. This way the installation from the SD will continue after you have done the setup

Your upgraded ROM is now running!

You will need ActiveSync 4.5 or newer to sync with your computer. DOWNLOAD HERE

S2U2 is a simple lock/unlock application which has the iPhone style slide unlocking. It can be used as a screensaver while you don't use your device. It has CallerID function (but may not work on some devices, so please try it first); S2P control plugin; and volume control. It can show many system information (customizable) even without unlocking.

Howto: Fix Slow USB 2.0 file transfer on Windows XP

USB storage devices can be optimized for either quick removal or performance. If optimized for quick removal, data transfer can potentially be reduced to a crawl.

To optimize your USB drive for performance:

Right click on the USB drive and select properties
Select the Hardware tab
Under All Disk Drives, highlight your USB drive and select Properties
Select the Policies tab and select Optimize for performance.
Press OK twice, and your transfer speeds should increase dramatically

Note that when your drive is optimized for performance you’ll need to use the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the taskbar to eject the drive - otherwise you’ll risk corrupting your data by just removing the drive from the port.

HowTo: extract files from a .msi file using the Windows command line

Every once in a while I need to extract the content of a .msi file in order to customize a deployment for a particular network environment. Sometimes initializing the .msi installer will temporarily extract the files into C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Temp, but those files are removed once the installer exits.

To extract files from a .msi file at the command line, type:

msiexec /a PathToMSIFile /qb TARGETDIR=DirectoryToExtractTo

For example, to extract files from f:\zenworks\zfdagent.msi into c:\zfd701 you would type:

msiexec /a f:\zenworks\zfdagent.msi /qb TARGETDIR=c:\zfd701

The destination directory does not need to exist prior to running this command.

Nokia Test is a freeware utility by Nokia that will guide you through testing and adjusting any monitor for an optimum display. There are test patterns for Geometry, Convergence, Resolution, Moiré, Brightness, Contrast, Focus, Readability, Color and Screen Regulation. You put up the test pattern and then make the adjustments to your monitor.

There is also an excellent help file that explains all the technical terms and procedures necessary to understand how to correctly set up and adjust your monitor.
Nokia Test runs under all versions of Windows and can be used on any computer display. There is nothing to install. Simply extract the zip file into a directory of your choice and a Nokia Test directory will be created. You can run the program directly from the directory or make a shortcut to Ntest.exe and run it from where ever you wish.

Nokia Test may not be the newest or the most advanced display diagnostic software available but it is easy to use … and you can’t beat the price!

Remove the limit on TCP connection attempts

Windws XP SP2 introduces a few new twists to TCP/IP in order to babysit users and “reduce the threat” of worms spreading fast without control. In one such attempt, the devs seem to have limited the number of possible TCP connection attempts per second to 10 (from unlimited in SP1). This argumentative feature can possibly affect server and P2P programs that need to open many outbound connections at the same time.

My download and upload speed on Torrent and P2P has slowed down tremendously after updating to Windows XP Service Pack 2.
The file TCPIP.SYS needs to be modified in order to have more TCP connections.
Unfortunately there exists no REG-key which could easily be set (would be so nice and easy, right? *smile*). The file TCPIP.SYS in the directory C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS and C:\WINDOWS\SERVICEPACKFILES\I386 has to be changed (system dependend eventually in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DLLCACHE, too).
Markus Goslar from LvlLord has created a patch called Event ID 4226 Patcher (4226 fix).
It automatically patches your TCPIP.SYS to allow TCP connection from 10 to 50 by default. You can specify the amount of TCP connection attempts you want as well.

To restore your TCP connection attempts if you’ve patched your TCPIP.SYS, just run the patcher again, and it will prompt you if you’d like to restore your TCP connection to 10.

Ever had such an annoying message given by Windows?

Cannot delete file: Access is denied.

Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.

You’ve checked and is very sure that all programs are closed, but you’re still unable to delete, rename or move the files/folders.

Have you ever had problems viewing movies clips downloaded from the internet or forwarded by your friends through email?
Can be very frustrating when your friend describes the attachment as “MUST WATCH” but you just couldn’t thinking there might be something wrong with your computer.

Mostly it is caused by not having the correct codec to play the movie clips.
Codec means Compressor-decompressor. Codecs are needed for encoding and decoding (playing) audio and video.
Since there are so many types of codecs, you wouldn’t know which to install and maybe installing the too many and wrongly configuring it will make your system unstable.

Some Russians from ICQ World has came out with a small piece of software called HMReger that is able to register Hotmail and MSN e-mail without going to the website.
All you need to do is to set up your desired Name, Password, secret Questions and Answer, alternate e-mail, gender, date of birth, country, province, timezone, and the username that you want to register together with your password.
All settings can be saved and allows you to register again and again with the same info but different login name.
This is how HMReger looks like.

After you’ve set everything on the Settings button, enter the login name that you want to register and select either hotmail.com or msn.com and finally click Registration button.
After a few seconds, you should see a 8 random generated characters.

Type in exactly as what you see on the screen and click OK button.

Voila! Now you have a new Hotmail.com or MSN.com email without wasting your time going to the website.

My boss bought a DVD from United States and need to show the movie to his colleague..
Afraid of his colleague loosing his DVD, he needs to create another VCD from the DVD to lend it to them.
Since it’s only a 25 minutes DVD presentation, I believe I can create a SuperVCD (SVCD) instead of VCD because SuperVCD has better quality.

a) Start DVD2AVI
b) Select the VOB files you want to convert:

5) Multiplexing:

Audio Input: “C:\MyCopy\FILM.MP2″
d) Click “Start”
-> TMPGEnc generates a MPG file (conversion time: 15 minutes)

6) Cutting:
a) Look at the size of your MPG file, and decide how many parts you want to make of it.
One part should not be bigger than 620 MB, if you use 74 min discs.
b) Start TMPGEnc
c) File…MPEG tools…Cut/Join
d) Type: MPEG-1 VideoCD
e) Add…”C:\MyCopy\FILM.MPG” -> The list shows a new entry
f) Click “Edit”
g) Select a part of the film using the buttons “[" and "]”
h) Click “OK”
i) Output…Browse…”C:\MyCopy\FILM1.MPG”
j) Click “Start”
-> TMPGEnc generates your FILM1.MPG
(conversion time: about 15 minutes, depending on the location of the part selected)
k) Repeat (f) to (j) for each other part (FILM2.MPG …)

7) Burning:
a) start Nero
b) select the icon “Video-CD”
c) Click “New”
d) From the Explorer on the right, choose “C:\MyCopy\FILM1.MPG”, and drag it into the list on the left.
-> Nero checks whether the MPG file is VideoCD compliant or not.
e) When the test is ready, click File…burn CD
f) Enter a volume descriptor
g) Click “OK”.
-> Nero burns the CD
h) Repeat (a) to (g) for each other part (FILM2.MPG …)

CPU-Z is a freeware that gathers information on some of the main devices of your system.

Anyone who gets their hands on it can use or abuse it.
Every time you give your email address to someone, you run the risk of being spammed.
Every time you post to a newsgroup, or use a discussion board, the same applies.
And, once you get onto a spammer’s list, it’s very hard to get off.

You can’t just keep your email address a secret either. What’s the point of having email if nobody can write to you?

Explanation by Davy Dane.
When connecting HD and CDROM/CDRW/DVD etc. to your computer you should follow these standards.
Don’t connect a HD and CDROM/CDRW/DVD to the same IDE port.
Connect the HD to IDE 1 and Connect the CDROM/CDRW/DVD to IDE 2 unless
You have an SATA HD then you can connect the CDROM/CDRW/DVD to IDE 1 but still never connect a HD and CDROM/CDRW/DVD on the same IDE port.
I believe there are now new DVD drives that run at 100 speed (DMA 5). If you have a 100/133 Speed HD and a 100 speed DVD drive then it’s ok to connect to the same IDE port.
When setting jumpers on HD and CDROM/CDRW/DVD drive always set the master to “MASTER ONLY” and the slave to “SLAVE”.
NEVER CHOOSE “MASTER W/ SLAVE (even if you have a slave)” or “CABLE SELECT” or “32 GB LIMIT”.
Make sure you have the correct speed cable on your HD. You need a 133 speed cable on your HD. It’s the thinner cable with the coloured end. The thicker cable for your CDROM/CDRW/DVD only runs at 66 (DMA 4).
One way of checking the speed of your HD is by going to the device manager/IDE Controllers right clicking on the channel and choose advanced settings. Your HD should be set to DMA 5 or DMA 6 (primary IDE). If it’s DMA 4 then you have the wrong speed cable connected to your HD.
Plug the Black end connector of your cable in your “MASTER” and the grey middle connector in your “SLAVE”.
Never plug the middle grey in the MASTER.

That makes sense doesn’t it?

That’s not the end of my computer problems. I tried reinstalling Windows again after low level format, and it kept on giving blue screen during installation. I took off the unneeded hardwares such as Network Card, Sound Card, etc… one by one and tried installing the Windows.
Finally, i had 3 RAMs, 512 on slot 1, 256 on slot 2 and another 256 on slot 3. I took off slot 2 and 3 and tried installing Windows and this time no problem. I used a tool Memtest86+ and ran test on my RAM, and yes indeed there are problems with my 2nd and 3rd ram.

Here’s the memory test i conducted:
Test 1: Slot 1 - 512MB + Slot 2 - 256MB (stick 1)
Result: Got error on Slot 2

Test 2: Slot 1 - 512MB + Slot 2 - 256MB (stick 2)
Result: Got error on Slot 2

From the 2 test above, looks obvious that both my 256MB RAM has problems.
But wait, there is another test to conduct.

Test 3: Slot 1 - 512MB + Slot 3 - 256MB (stick 1)
Result: NO ERROR. (Can you believe that?)

Test 4: Slot 1 - 512MB + Slot 3 - 256MB (stick 2)
Result: No ERROR. ( I can’t believe it too!)

My conclusion is, the Slot 2 on my mother for RAM is damaged. And, for desktop PC, I would use FAT32 rather than NTFS on drives that contains Windows Operating System. I don’t want to go through all that again…

Davy Dane did said that “Most people think this has to be a HD problem but that’s not true. I had this problem when I had a bad VIDEO CARD, RAM, and MODEM before.”
I think he’s probably right too. The bad memory might have given wrong information on bad sectors. DUH!

Update: I tried to use Slot 1 and Slot 3 to install Windows XP and doesn’t work. I can only stick with 512MB of memory for the time being…

An identifier for a computer or device on a TCP/IP network. Networks using the TCP/IP protocol route messages based on the IP address of the destination. The format of an IP address is a 32-bit numeric address written as four numbers separated by periods. Each number can be zero to 255. For example, 1.160.10.240 could be an IP address.

Within an isolated network, you can assign IP addresses at random as long as each one is unique. However, connecting a private network to the Internet requires using registered IP addresses (called Internet addresses) to avoid duplicates.

The four numbers in an IP address are used in different ways to identify a particular network and a host on that network. Four regional Internet registries — ARIN, RIPE NCC, LACNIC and APNIC — assign Internet addresses from the following three classes.

Class A - supports 16 million hosts on each of 126 networks

Class B - supports 65,000 hosts on each of 16,000 networks

Class C - supports 254 hosts on each of 2 million networks

The number of unassigned Internet addresses is running out, so a new classless scheme called CIDR is gradually replacing the system based on classes A, B, and C and is tied to adoption of IPv6.

xplode wants to say many thanks to...mamaich (still use hes tools in rom building for BA), bepe (BuildOS is hes work - a brilliant one), in random order, sun_dream, childrin (solved my 96 hours headbang), mun_rus, Tuatara (constant help and support), helmi_c, itsme (brilliant perl scripts which were used for dumping all the goodies from newer roms), cmonex (a lot of help and support in reallocating and nk.exe editing) and a lot more people involved ...

Bugs found so far:

PIE 8.12 still have chinese customization - i will deal with it today or some time tomorrow
Outlook Live does not want to connect - maybe microsoft shut down the test server after the build leaked
Marketplace can not connect either
My Phone crashes ...
widgets not working on ba - error is that this device is not supported
windows live tab in chome is not in WM6.5 style (can be edited but looks like crap at the moment)
Start menu has some missing icons (again due to chinese characters in a provxml file)

Installation Instructions:

1.Device preparation
Put your device into boot loader mode by pressing record+reset+power buttons at the same time. On screen should appear \"δεrial\" and your boot loader version. Put your device into cradle, the \"δεrial\" inscription should change to \"USB\".

2.Download
Go to the download page.At the bottom of the page there is a field where you should type the password. Type it and click on submit. Then press Download button to begin the download.

3.Software Upgrade
After downloading extract the RAR archive in to a folder. Start MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe to begin the upgrade. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete. After upgrading the software asks to reset the device, so press the reset button. Four colored stripes will appear on screen, at this time fast press and hold camera and record buttons at the same time (you should to this before appearing of radio protocol and rom version on screen). If you are succeeded with the buttons three options will show on screen. You can change option value by pressing the record button, and switch to the next value by pressing the camera button. You must change the three options as follows:

Enable KITL: NO
Clean Registry Hive: YES
Format Storage: YES

After that press Mail button. The screen will become white for a minute then the device will boot.

Warning:Rom updating procedure erases everything in your Storage memory (Phone memory) including contacts, messages (mail, sms, mms), settings ... everything, so backup your data before upgrading.

Making a large step from a regular WinMo PocketPC to a heavily armored MID (Mobile Internet Device), Toshiba today launched the TG01 PocketPC. Packed with a 4.1" WVGA screen and measuring only 9.9 mm, the Toshiba TG01 certainly sounds like an impressive device, if not revolutionary.

The Toshiba TG01 is the first device in the world to run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon platform, which is powered by a 1GHz mobile CPU and hosts GSM, HSPDA, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS connectivity all on one chipset. The CPU has dynamic speed control and Toshiba and Qualcomm claim it'll go for a whole day without recharging.

There's no short way to describe all the features of the Toshiba TG01 so please bear with us. First off, it's the huge display - a 4.1-inch large touchscreen display has a WVGA resolution (800 x 480 pixels) and it's certainly the biggest one we've seen on a GSM mobile phone.

The Toshiba TG01 also packs unprecedented size for its hardware capabilities - it's only 9.9 millimeters thick. The device is obviously quite wide and tall but that's mostly because of the display as there are hardly any hardware buttons to take up place - even the receiver keys have become part of the user interface present throughout the whole UI.

The connectivity section of the Toshiba TG01 includes HSPA and Wi-Fi plus a GPS receiver with A-GPS functionality. The internal storage is "only" 512 MB but you get a microSDHC card slot with support for up to 32GB.

The TG01 also comes with support for DivX video, and finally, the Toshiba TG01 makes use of a built-in 3.2 megapixel camera.

The OS chosen to power the Toshiba TG01 is Windows Mobile 6.1 but as you will see from the following video Toshiba have added their own 3D thumb-optimized user interface on top of it

Toshiba have also supplied the TG01 with Internet Explorer Mobile 6 with full support for Flash. To aid web navigation a virtual track pad will appear on the screen to help with complex pages.

Further enhancing the UI are the shake controls that can be used to answer and end calls or return to the homescreen (screen auto rotation is available too).

Toshiba will make the TG01 available in Europe this summer through exclusive operator deals though they are tight-lipped about which operators and pricing. Two colors have been shown so far – black and white.

As you might be aware by now, the Mobile World Congress is happening in a couple of weeks, so all of the major manufacturers are releasing all manner of tidbits to get the journos excited.

Today is the turn of Toshiba, who have announced a new handset, the TG01, from out of nowhere!

Promising ‘a mobile revolution,’ the TG01 is a Windows Mobile powered-handset offering a jazzed-up user interface on top in the vein of the Samsung Omnia or the HTC Touch HD’s TouchFLO 3D.

Actually, the TG01 has a lot in common with HTC’s latest, offering a slender 4.1″ wide handset that is a mere 9.9″ thick.

The VGA screen takes up most of that real estate on the front of the screen, whilst the new Qualcomm Snapdragon chip inside offers the kind of processing grunt to make the TG01 more than a match for the iPhone…on paper at least!

Med Jeewoth, Toshiba’s country manager for UK and Ireland, did the honours, claiming the company have taken their expertise in TV and applied it to mobiles, and they also “listened to what users want - great speed, and the interaction of a touchscreen, but more importantly you want it to look really slick, very slim and very sexy.”

3G connectivity and built-in GPS are all standard, as as support for both Flash and DivX for all your multimedia needs!

A very nice handset in both white and black (the standard post-iPhone smartphone colours), Toshiba’s TG01 is an unexpected but welcome surprise! Hands-on impressions as and when we can get them, promise to make it up with plenty of content when we go to the MWC!

Even more, the TG01 comes with other advanced features, including HSDPA connectivity, GPS, DivX support and a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset that runs at 1GHz. The OS is Windows Mobile 6.1, improved with Toshiba’s own Tosh 3D interface.

There’s no word about the handset’s camera yet, so we don’t know its Megapixel count (but it’s probably a high one).

As Toshiba puts it, the new TG01 is set to “revolutionize the mobile entertainment world”, and, with those specs, I think it can to that indeed.

Noise Tracker measures the loudness by taking an audio sample and calculating its mean average.

The black bars are the mean values and the current wave is drawn in blue. Don't know yet what a real use case for this app could be. Anyway, hope someone will find it useful. Tested on a wm6 prof. device.

With 'Scale' the bars drawing height of the bars can be changed.

This is a free software to collect data to OpenCellID project using your Windows Mobile 5 or 6 based device with built in GPS receiver.

The OpenCellID project wants to create a complete database of CellID worldwide, with their locations. How it works: making a query with cell tower information the service will answer with its coordinates. But, the tower must be added with its coordinates. At this point OpenCellClient can help.

You will let this application turned on while you are walking or driving. The device will identify all cell towers and their coordinates. There are no need to be connect to the internet all the time spending with data transfer. You can send the colected data later, when you are in home or using some public WiFi spot for example.

There is another crucial application will have benefit of the results of this service: RemoteTracker. This is an Antitheft software and you can use to track your device when it was lost or stolen. It works catching a formated SMS sent from any phone, MSN, AIM or web sites and then send useful informations back. These informations can have GPS coordinates, list os contacts, owner informations and more.

RemoteTracker also uses the OpenCellID database when your device can't connect to GPS or if your device does not have a built in GPS receiver.

This is a tutorial for whoever get stuck at 4 color-screen or bootloader mode

(NOTE: This has also been presented as a way to hard reset the phone if the email button is broken)

1. Download mtty v1.42 HERE

2. Stop ActiveSync, by Task Manager (press Ctrl + Alt + Delete) kill two processes rapimgr.exe and wcescomm.exe

3. put your device into Bootloader Mode by pressing Power + Record Button and Soft Reset.

4. Run mtty (from downloaded) Choose WCEUSBSH001 (If you only see COM 1 and COM 2, try unplugging the USB and replugging it)

5. type "set 14 0" without the quotes to tell bootloader to boot the OS after reset.

6. type "task 28" to get your device formatted

7. type "task 0" to ask your device reboot

8. take the device out of the cradle or cable, and manually reset it if it does not do that already.

If someone wants to find a way to get that working on the ARM cpu in a fast fashion (ha! and steal resources from our meager graphics?!) feel free to do so.
* Memory now autopartitions itself, so you don't need to worry about reconfiguring stuff. You still need a lot of memory, but requirements have been reduced.
* Audio has been converted to MP3 to save space
* Fonts and graphics have been cleaned up by using better resizing mechanism.
* Normals have been fixed, and you can play more than one level without the game crashing.
* The shotgun seems to have a bug. It may crash the game.
* If the game crashes, ensure you delete the temporary files it creates in your ppc's root directory, named 'q3ce_*.swp'. If you fail to do this, your ppc may not be able to boot up again without a hard reset. This is a bug in Windows, and I can't do too much about it. Hopefully, thing will work fine for you. Your mileage may vary, and my liability is limited

Before we start fixing anything you should print out these instructions or copy them to a NotePad file so they will be accessible. Some steps will require you to disconnect from the Internet or use Safe Mode and you will not have access to this page.

Please download DrWeb-CureIt & save it to your desktop. DO NOT perform a scan yet.

Reboot your computer in "SAFE MODE" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

Scan with DrWeb-CureIt as follows:

Double-click on drweb-cureit.exe to start the program. An "Express Scan of your PC" notice will appear.
Under "Start the Express Scan Now", Click "OK" to start. This is a short scan that will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the Yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it.
Once the short scan has finished, Click Options > Change settings
Choose the "Scan tab" and uncheck "Heuristic analysis"
Back at the main window, click "Custom Scan", then Select drives (a red dot will show which drives have been chosen).
Then click the "Start/Stop Scanning" button (green arrow on the right) and the scan will start.
When done, a message will be displayed at the bottom advising if any viruses were found.
Click "Yes to all" if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
When the scan has finished, look if you can see the icon next to the files found. If so, click it, then click the next icon right below and select "Move incurable".
(This will move it to the C:\Documents and Settings\userprofile\DoctorWeb\Quarantine folder if it can't be cured)
Next, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list.
Save the DrWeb.csv report to your desktop.
Exit Dr.Web Cureit when done.
Important! Reboot your computer because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web in your next reply. (You can use Notepad to open the DrWeb.cvs report)

The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Me and my wife went to wet market this morning to buy something for tonight's dinner. After we bought everything I saw this "very" old woman crying and begging for help outside the market. Disguise Your Browser as a Google Bot and Get Free Access to Pay Sites

Did you know that most registration sites give Google VIP access to their restricted content? Reason being, these sites want their content indexed in Googles vast search database to attract and receive more hits. Why should Google be the only one to get this VIP treatment? Here is how, using your existing browser, that you can receive similar treatment.

First you have to trick the website that you are visiting that you are actually a Google bot. To do that you need to modify your browsers ‘User Agent.’ If you use FireFox download User Agent Switcher (UAS) to start the process.

Then you need to alter the UAS settings (Tools - User Agent Switcher - Options - Options - User Agents - Add) to the following:

Googlebot/2.1 (+http://www.googlebot.com/bot.html)

Simple as that! Now you should be able to access forums and news sites that previously required registrations.

Ever wondered why a google search returned search results that lead to sites that require a registration ? How the hell did googlebot index the site without a registration ? Many sites want their site indexed in google to recieve more hits and thus, make more money with advertisment on their site. Even more interesting is the following question: How do we use this to our advantage ?

Its fairly easy, we have to disguise ourselfs as the google bot and voila, many sites let us in without registration. The parameter we have to change is called the User Agent. The user agent defines the browser and version that you use. For example it would show Internet Explorer as your browser if you are using this one.

You need to alter your settings to the following:

User Agent: Googlebot/2.1
Compatible: http://www.googlebot.com/bot.html

You can do so in Opera with ease. Firefox offers an extension which is downloadable from the official website.

For Internet Explorer you need to change registry entries.

Completely Disassemble the HTC Touch

This is a guide to illustrate how to completely disassemble the HTC Touch, including the digitizer

What you need:

T5 Screwdriver
#2 Screwdriver
Plastic opening tools

If you want to be on the safe side I’d also recommend using anti static gloves

To start, remove the back cover by pushing it upwards and sliding it off

Remove the battery and stylus

Using the T5 screwdriver remove the 4 screws at each corner of the main chassis

Remove the rear speaker at the top of the main chassis by lifting it off

To remove the front housing, use a plastic tool to get between the front part of the case and the chrome rim. Work it around the edge to release all of the catches

Now you need to disconnect the front housing from the mainboard by using a plastic tool to gently lift the connection from the mainboard

Next, disconnect the vibration part by lifting the red and black wired connection from the mainboard

To remove the mainboard from the chassis, gently pull the USB connection upwards. Once it is just out, pull it clear using the sides – avoid touching it as much as possible

To remove the camera, simply pull it away from the mainboard in the same way as the front housing separates from the mainboard

To take the LCD out, you need to first disconnect it. To do so, first remove the yellow tape that lies over the connection

Next, open the catch holding the ribbon cable in place, and pull it out

You will now be able to pull the LCD out without having the remove the LCD’s metal chassis as the ribbon will pull through the back of it

If you need to remove the LCD’s metal chassis, use the T5 screwdriver to undo the 2 screws beneath it, and it will come off

To remove the digitizer, you need to first disconnect it from the circuitboard behind the keypad by undoing the catch and pulling it out

Although not necessary, I would advise you to remove the circuitboard behind the keypad before the digitizer incase it is damaged during the process

To do this, simply remove the 2 screws holding it in place using the #2 screwdriver

Then pull the board out by levering it up with the plastic tools. This may take some fiddling but it will come out by gently pulling it while sliding it upwards at the same time

The keypad will now easily come out

To continue with removing the digitizer, push it forwards from behind by pushing on the corners. It is stuck in with a type of glue so it may feel as if it won’t come out but it will

The digitizer’s ribbon cable will then slide out of the hole on the front housing

To remove the earpiece speaker from the front housing, simply lever it up using the plastic tool or carefully with a screwdriver

The vibration part from the main chassis easily pulls out

The on/off button, camera button and the SIM and MicroSD card holder door will easily remove from the main chassis by lifting them out

To remove the speaker from the back you simply need to lever it out

This will hopefully help you to replace the housing on your device, or replace faulty parts.

Blue Angel ROM File Format

Structure of ROM Files for the Blue Angel

This section shows the physical layout of the ROM Image Files for the Blue Angel Device as supplied by Telecom Companies (O2, TMobile etc).

These ROM Files for the Blue Angel are shipped as .nbf files which are encrypted to prevent people from messing with them (Yeah right!)

In order to get around this encryption and start playing with the files we need some tools, and here they are:

Extended ROM nbf Tool xda3nbftool.exe used for decoding the nbf files.
A good hex editor such as FRHED (Free Hex EDitor) - frhed-v1.1.zip or Website.
An extraction tool to remove the files from the FAT Filing System in the ROM (ms_.nba). NONE AVAILABLE AT PRESENT!

To make a start you need to decode the nbf files using xda3nbftool.exe as follows:

xda3nbftool -x nk.nbf nk.nba 0x20040521
xda3nbftool -x radio_.nbf radio_.nba 0x20040523

This will result in 3 files being created with nba file extensions. These three files are as follows:

1) ms_.nba    - Blue Angel Extended ROM Image (Plus Header).
2) nk.nba     - Blue Angel CE ROM Image (Plus Header).
3) radio_.nba - Blue Angel Radio ROM Image (Plus Header).

As far as I can tell each of these files has a standard header block which is used by the BaUpgradeUt.exe to ensure that the ROM image is the correct one for the Blue Angel device you are trying to write it to. This header contains information such as the Operator Code, Blue Angel part code and language which appears to be stripped out before transfer to the Blue Angel after being checked.

I have split this Wiki page into 3 sections covering the three roms, again note I am using the nba file generated by the code above.

There are three different LCDs in the blueangels: Sony ACX502BMV, Toppoly TD035STEC1 and Toppoly TD035STED1 (Part numbers).

At least boardid 0x5 needs a different setup than board id 0x6, and the bootloader on some BAs claims a "Toppoly LCD".

Left one is a Toppoly LCD (see http://www.toppoly.com/toppoly/Product/TD035STEC1.asp ) used in boardid 0x6 BAs

Right one is a Sony one (ACX502BMV) used in boardid 0x5

DISASSEMBLING BLUE ANGEL

Preamble

This page was prompted by more than one person's explicit need. Therefore, in this page you will find a very thorough, unillustrated description of how to fully disassemble the Blue Angel.

PARTS

The Blue Angel, apart from the cover, is composed of several parts (Boards, holders, etc...)

(P.5) Back board
(P.6) Under board
(P.7) Back LCD plastic cover
(P.8) Front Key Module holder

IMPORTANT NOTES

Never use magnetic tools for disassembling your Blue Angel. Keep in mind that this product is mainly composed by semiconductors that can be seriously damaged by magnetic fields.
Never handle Blue Angel parts with your bare hands. Use electrostatic protection, like a wrist strap.
Never use volatile liquids to clean ANY part of Blue Angel (plastic, metallic, or ebonite).
Handle PARTICULARLY carefully the connection bands. They break quite easily.

DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURE

Make sure you backup ALL DATA before going on with this procedure. It may take quite some time, especially if you are not experienced, and your backup battery may discharge (that will make your device PERMANENTLY lose data).
Remove Battery.
Remove SIM Card, if installed.
Remove Memory Card, if installed.
Remove 3 screws from inside the Battery Compartment. (my PH20B has 4, one under a `void' seal)
Remove 2 screws from the exterior of the your device.
Remove (P.2) Back Plastic Cover.
Remove 5 screws holding the TOP board to the chassis.
Remove the data band from the RIGHT side of the TOP board, lifting the black bracket and pulling the band out.
Remove the two ISO9752 (3 and 5). Make sure to handle the bands with CARE.
Slide the LCD Piece (P.4) till the coarse end.
Remove 2 screws from the back TOP of (P.4 - P.7).
Remove 2 screws from the back BOTTOM of (P.4 - P.7).
Lift the BOTTOM of (P.7).
While still holding the BOTTOM of (P.7) up, slide it down, in order for the 2 clamps on TOP of (P.7) to be released from mechanical tension.
Physically separate (P.7) from (P.4), ensuring the 2 data bands easily slide through the back hole.
Remove (P.8) from (P.7), removing the 2 screws that hold them together.
Carefuly remove the data band form between (P.8) and (P.7).
Remove the 2 metalic plates from (P.6), revealing the circuitry behind it.

At this point your device is fully disassembled, except for:

LCD
Keyboard

If you really need to disassemble those, simply remove the screws that actually hold them together. Note that you only need to remove those parts for replacement purposes. There isn't anything else that you can do with them.

BACKUP YOUR DATA BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS!

The innards of your phone are very small, and some of the wires are about as thin as, if not thinner, than a human hair. If you are in any way uncomfortable with the thought of opening your phone, do not do it.

And as always, no one at the site can or will be held responsible if you break your phone by doing this. Also keep in mind that your individual phone may be slightly different from the pictures and procedure listed below. If what you see in your phone doesn't match what is shown here, do not continue. If you decide to forge ahead, do so very carefully!

First, remove the four screws on the back cover with the appropriate torx driver (if you don't have one, a very small flat-head screwdriver will work if you are careful). Mine had a 'VOID' sticker over one of the screws, just heat it up with a hair dryer and use a razor blade to gently lift under the sticker (that is, if you want to keep it!)

Next, remove the two side screws.

You may want to remove the stylus, as well as pop the rubber earbud cap loose. Now, carefully lift up the back cover. Start by lifting at the battery bay and keeping the top connected. Then push the entire back panel up and over the camera and antenna housing.

Now you can see the guts of your phone. Take a deep breath! Next, there are three screws that hold the main board in place.

Next, carefully lift the board from the LEFT side (if the antenna and camera assembly is up), you will see the screen/digitizer and button ribbons that are below. BE CAREFUL NOT TO STRETCH THESE TOO MUCH, AS THE CABLES ARE DELICATE!

Using a small flat screwdriver, pry the connectors free from the main board backside before you pull up on the main board too much further. You will be able to get your fingers in there later to push the connectors back on to re-assemble.

The main board will still be connected to the KEYBOARD via a smaller, and more delicate ribbon, as shown below:

Now, you can decide to disassemble with the ribbon attached, or you can remove it. If you want to remove it, you may have wanted to remove it BEFORE you remove the screen cables, but that is up to you. The procedure is as follows:

Back on the other side of the main board, you will find where the keyboard ribbon is attached. Carefully pull up the tape that is installed on the ribbon (release the tape from the sheet metal RF shield).

Next, notice the darker clip that is on the ribbon cable connector. This clip needs to be popped up, away from the ribbon, as shown in the following picture. You can use your fingernail to do this. It should not take too much force. Be very careful doing this, as it is possible to break the clip off of the connector body. If you are lucky, you will be able to snap it back into place. If you are not lucky, well...

Next, gently pull the ribbon cable out of the connector (along the ribbon cable, away from the connector). You can use the two side tabs on the ribbon with an implement, and wiggle it out side to side. BE VERY CAREFUL HERE, as the conductors on the outside run the LED's on your keyboard, and breaking them would mean no more keyboard light, or worse yet, no more keyboard!

Next, we have the LCD and digitizer, which are stuck together as a single unit. It is held in place by 6 screws and a connector cable to the bottom which in turn depends on 2 further screws.

First remove the red circled screws (the orange tape at the top right covers two of the screws), then the turquoise circled ones. Lift up the screen at the bottom (use a slotted screwdriver on the outer metal mounts circled red) and take out the little board at the bottom (it connects the the 4 soft buttons on the front). The last remaining thing to do is to remove the tape from the back of the screen unit, and then we can take it out of the shell.

Gently lift the ribbon cable up and out of the way, and we have this:

Reassembly is the reverse. Per my own experience, the easiest way to reattach the screen and button ribbons is to slide open the keyboard. This exposes more of the ribbon cables and makes the task of plugging them back into the motherboard sockets much easier.
