On this Blog, I will teach you how to upgrade your HTC BlueaAngel from its original ROM (Windows Mobile 2003SE) to a latest ROM (as of now Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro). And if you do this successfully it will be easy for you to upgrade your HTC BlueAngel if there is a newer ROM than WM6.1Pro. ROMs can be found all over the internet that is if you search carefully. But non of those ROMs are official for HTC BlueAngel. Those ROMs are cooked ROMs that means the original ROM (package) was upgraded or added some extra features/softwares/applications that can also be found on a original WM6.1Pro. I will see to it that all explanations here will be as easy as 1-2-3.

In WM2003SE you have 4 "types" of memory:

ExtROM - Where data such as hotfix or addons are stored. Persistent memory - no data is lost when battery is drained.


ROM - Where OS is stored. Persistent memory - no data is lost when battery is drained.


RAM - You can adjust the ratio between Storage (where programs are stored) and Program memory (where programs "run"), but it's non-persistent memory - all data is lost when battery is drained. (Installed programs, sms, documents everything!)


Storage - You can store here anything you want and this is persistent memory - no data is lost when battery is drained.

In WM5 and WM6 you are not using your RAM as storage for programs or documents anymore. Instead of RAM you are using Storage - because as we said before, no data is lost when your battery runs out.





Because of this, it's a good idea to merge your ExtROM with Storage to one "BIG Storage". (You will not install anything from ExtROM. You're not using non-persistent memory for storing programs anymore. Instead of ExtROM you can use SD or MMC card (Memory card), or install the hotfixes once after the flashing)








Hint: If something isn't working as it was expected - read it again, step by step, one by one - it must work.



NOTE : You can resize your storage only in WM2003SE!

- Download unlocker.cab DOWNLOAD HERE

- Download Repart_Doc.exe DOWNLOAD HERE

- Place both of them somewhere on your Pocket PC. For example in \temp but anywhere is fine. All the command below are to be executed on your Pocket PC, not on your PC.

- Install xda-developers_Unlocker.CAB by tapping on it in filemanger (from the directory where you put it earlier)

- Then go to start -> Programs -> ExtROM tools -> then first run "unhide", then "Unlock".

- Do a soft reset.

- Once your Pocket PC is restarted, locate the Repart_DOC.exe file with your filemanager and start it.

- Set the size of Extended ROM to 128 kb (which is already the default).

- Press "Format now!" and wait until it is done (A few seconds). You will see a message that it is done. (You will get an error message about your storage, just press yes and wait a few seconds.)

- Soft reset your Pocket PC.

For Windows XP users

1. Download the folder

WINDOWS MOBILE 6.1Pro Version 3.02 DOWNLOAD HERE


LATEST Windows Mobile OS can be found on top of this blog.

2. Put that folder on your computer. (anywhere will do)

3. Temporarily remove your SD Card (it may work for you with the SD card still in your BA, but you may not be able to enter USB mode when cradled).

4. Put your device into Bootloader mode by pressing and holding the "Power" & "Record" buttons, and then press the Reset Button.

Doing a hardreset is easy if you have 3 hands - softreset (see above) and then as soon as you see the Strips

Then you will be a debugger screen








































Navigation in menu is done with camera and record buttons.

“Enable KITL” must be NO “Clean Registry Hive” must be YES “Format Storage” must be YES exit - "mail" button

You will know if you have performed a hard reset if you are lead through the setup of your device section. All else is just a softreset.

How to Enter into BootLoader















Press and hold the "Power" & "Record" buttons, and then press the Reset Button until “Serial” shows on screen.
(Some BlueAngel shows "Serial" at the top and "V2.07" at the bottom.)





NOTE: The screen will not be backlit, so it may appear the phone is not in bootloader mode.









Look carefully.





When the USB sync cable is inserted into the phone and the computer, "Serial" will change to "USB", provided that the phone detects the connection.

Its the boot screen and will pass

You have got yourself in the Hardreset boot screen and you are given the option to format storage, its in the upgrade so read it again




What is this white screen
You have just formated your storage or got out of the hardrest boot screen and it will go away, to be followed by the 4 colored screen

5. Connect the phone to the sync cable/cradle.

7. Now you can execute the installer file. (BaUpgradeUt.exe) You will see this window:

8. When the upgrade is completed, you must perform a Hard Reset. (I have already showed you how to do thus)

When the bootscreen, aka. the colored stripes is displayed, wait more, you are booting. The welcome screen to set up your device will appear shortly ...

(if removed earlier) Put back your SD Card before you do the setup. This way the installation from the SD will continue after you have done the setup

Your upgraded ROM is now running!

You will need ActiveSync 4.5 or newer to sync with your computer. DOWNLOAD HERE
